There are three kinds of scholarship for international students to apply.
1.Chinese government scholarship (also named as CSC)
The highest level scholarship covers tuition fee, accommodation fee, monthly allowance and air ticket fee. Which means students need not pay anything for his study in China. This makes CSC become most students’ dream.
Features
1)For new students only. Current students at school can not apply.
2)If you are awarded CSC, it will be valid during your study period in China as long as you observe the law and study well at school.
3)CSC is more likely to be awarded to students who applied for Chinese taught ptograms.
2.Provincial government scholarship
It is granted by provincial government. The scope of the scholarship may ranges from 10000-40000RMB. It’s different in different cities and different for bachelor, master and PhD students.
Features
1) Available for both new students and current students.
2) It should and can be applied every year. If one gets it this year, it does not mean he can get it next year. If one does not get it this year, he can still have the chance to apply next year if he studies hard.
It will be reviewed by the school according to the grades you got.
3) Students apply for English taught majors have equal scholarship chance as students choose Chinese taught majors.
4) The release process of scholarship is different from CSC. If ou are CSC student, you need not pay tuition fee and accommodation fee. But if you get provincial scholarship, you needs to pay tuition fee first by yourself. And then scholarship money will be returned about 2-3 months after semester begins.
3.University Scholarship
It is granted by each school, aiming to take in more students to some certain majors. Sometimes when school wants to set up some elite majors for international students. They will give scholarship chance to certain majors. The information may be different every year.
Features
1) Available for both new students and current students.
2) It should and can be applied every year.
3) Not for all majors. The specific information will be announced every year.
4) The release process of scholarship is same as provincial government scholarship. But in some schools, scholarship is also regarded as part of tuition fee, which means you just need to pay rest part of tuition fee deducting the scholarship.
Suggestions:
Studying abroad cost much for international students. It is normal that most of students want to apply for scholarship. And of course CSC is attracting to everyone. But quota for scholarship is limited. Not everyone can get it. So the wise choice is
1) If you do plan to apply for CSC, studying some Chinese and getting a reference letter from embassy would increase your score.
2) Evaluate your family finance status, your grade, and the fee structure of your target major. Find a balance between them and choose a suitable school and suitable majors. Tuition fee for Chinese taught majors are cheaper than English taught majors.
3) If your grade is not so good do not be upset. Try to discover your own specialty and your achievement in some special activities. Like you are a champion of state football games.
